VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND DEPUTY CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, UGANDA TOURISM BOARD

 

The Public Service Commission was requested by the Uganda Tourism Board to  undertake the recruitment and selection exercise for the positions of the Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Tourism Board. 

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the posts as indicated below:-

BACKGROUND:

Uganda Tourism Board which is an equal opportunity employer is a a semi autonomous agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities.

 

It is being managed in accordance with the Uganda Tourism Act 2008.  The objectives of the Uganda Tourism Board are to:-

 

a)     promote and contribute to the development of the Tourism Sector in Uganda;

b)    coordinate with the Ministry and the private sector in the implementation of the national tourism policy;

carryout such activities as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the objects specified in paragraph (a) and (b) above.

Minimum Qualification
Applicants should be Ugandans in possession of a Master’s Degree in either Management; or Business Administration; or Tourism; or Marketing; or Law; or any other Course closely related to any of the above disciplines from a recognized University/Institution. Applicants should have a minimum of ten (10) years working experience in handling board governance, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Head of Department and above in a reputable organization. Ability to communicate using Manderin (Chinese), Arabic or French Language will be an added advantage. Applicants should have:- - An in-depth understanding of the tourism industry and be able to generate passion, energy and enthusiasm amongst all stakeholders. - Excellent track record of performance at a high level management position - Good track record in turning around organization image and performance into a competitive and vibrant institution able to command the respect of stakeholders through innovation, change management and systems building. - Proven experience in Tourism, Planning, Marketing, Financial and Human Resource Management, Public Relations and resource mobilization is a must.

Duties
The incumbent will be responsible to the CHAIRMAN BOARD OF DIRECTORS for performing the following duties:-

 

DUTY STATION: UGANDA TOURISM BOARD HEADQUARTERS

CONTRACT DURATIONThree (3) years. Renewable on satisfactory performace and mutual agreement.

PROBATION PERIOD: Six (6) Months

SUPERVISES: Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Marketing Manager, Finance and Planning Manager, Human Resource and Admin Manager, Manager Legal and Corporation Secretary, Senior Procurement Officer, Senior Public Relations Officer, Senior Internal Auditor [Administrativrly], Executive Assistant to the CEO

 

-     Providing technical support to the Board, ensuring that Board resolutions are implemented;

-     Soliciting advice and guidance from the Board of Directors on all matters of strategic importance;

-     Developing and recommending to the Board of Directors strategies including annual business plans and operating budgets;

-     Organizing on time and attending as Secretary, all Board and Committee meetings;

-     Overseeing the drafting of the strategic plan and its review and providing strategic leadership to achieve the strategic goals as laid out in the strategic plan;

-     Responsible for creating and communicating the organization’s vision, mission and overall direction and supervising all the Directors and evaluating the success of the organization in reaching its goals, making sure that each strategic goal is measurable and measured;

-     Ensuring that stakeholders are served to satisfaction and that UTB has a good reputation through liaising with other entities including the Ministry responsible for Tourism on behalf of the Board;

-     Carrying out the functions of an accounting officer as stipulated in Government rules and procedures;

-     Overseeing  the financial management of the institution ensuring that adequate resources are mobilized and effectively and efficiently used to achieve the organization’s strategic goals;

Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
