The incumbent will be responsible to the Assistant Commissioner, Veterinary Regulation and Enforcement in performing the following duties:-
- Initiating formulation of strategies and plans for the inspection and certification of meat, milk, hides/skins, horn products, gallstones, etc for export, and evaluation of the required safety and qualitative standards for imports;
- Inspecting, certifying and issuing international veterinary health certificates or veterinary import/export permits/travel documents for live animals (domestic and wild) and animal products;
- Managing the process of inter institutional collaboration for various sectors that have a role in the inspection and certification of live animals and animal products for export/import;
- Building capacity of Veterinary Inspectors at the Ministry and other institutions so as to meet international standards (WTO, SPS, OIE, FAO, Food Safety, HACCP, ISO etc);
- Conducting national surveys to register annually or as required evaluate for bio-security and bio-safety compliance of the potential and actual enterprises/premises involved in local/import/exportation of live animals and or their products;
- Providing technical backup to other mandated government institutions, local governments and private sector on veterinary inspection – certification procedures for import/export;
- Preparing and submitting emergency reports
- Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
