Job Details (SENIOR VETERINARY INSPECTOR [ZONES])

d)        The passport should be less than 150KB and in the standard image formats i.e. JPGE, PNG or JPG.

e)        Print an Extract of PS Form 3 (2008) and obtain recommendation from the Responsible Officer.  Scan the recommendation together with the rest of the documents and submit online.

Minimum Qualification
Applicants should be Ugandans in possession of an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine or any other related discipline from a recognized Institution/University
Working Experience
Applicants should have a minimum of three (3) years working experience in the field of Veterinary Medicine, which should have been served at Officer level in Government or equivalent level of experience from a reputable organization.
Duties
The incumbent will be responsible to the Principal Veterinary Officer for performing the following duties:-

-       Sensitizing, harmonizing, coordinating, monitoring and enforcing compliance to regulations and standards on animal disease control, animal movement control; veterinary public health; food safety; animal welfare; veterinary professional ethics and veterinary public health; food safety; animal welfare; veterinary professional ethics, and veterinary drugs in the Zone;

-       Responding on behalf of the Department on any problems regarding animal disease control; animal movement control; veterinary public health; food safety; animal welfare; veterinary  professional ethics and veterinary drugs in the Zone;

-       Collaborating with law enforcers, Ministry of Health, Local Governments and the Private Sector in relation to breaches in compliance of regulations and standards in evaluating and warning officially; participating in apprehending; charging and prosecution of offenders;

-       Supervising the sampling process and making laboratory follow-ups so as  to enable scientific inspection and certification of live animals and their products such as meat, milk, hides and skins, horn products, gallstones in the Zone;

-       Monitoring the use of veterinary movement permits/animal health certificates by the Veterinary Inspectors and District Veterinary Officers in the Zone;

-       Monitoring and controlling the practice of Veterinary Medicine by the Private Sector to adhere to the Veterinary Surgeons Act and other legal frameworks;

-       Inspecting suitability of owners/premises/enterprises engaged in operations in livestock farming, slaughter, animal products processing and the distribution/usage of veterinary drugs/medicines;

-       Monitoring, evaluating and providing technical backup and training to urban and the private sector personnel on veterinary inspection, certification and regulatory enforcement of compliance;

-       Preparing, compiling and submitting emergency and quarterly reports to the Supervisor;

-       Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
