Job Details (PRINCIPAL AGRICULTURAL INSPECTOR, PESTS AND DISEASES)

Minimum Qualification
Applicants should be Ugandans in possession of an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture; or Biological Sciences plus a minimum of a Post Graduate Diploma in any of the above fields from a recognized University/ Institution.
Working Experience
Applicants should have a minimum of six (6) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been in the field of Plant and Crop Management and Development at Senior Agricultural Inspector level in Government or from a reputable Organization.
Duties
The incumbent will be responsible to the Assistant Commissioner Pests and Diseases for performing the following duties:-

-      Participating in the formulation, reviewing and implementation of policies, legislation standards, plans and strategies for control of crop pests and diseases;

-      Inspecting agricultural plantations with a view of controlling crop pests;

-      Guiding Local Governments, the Ministry and other stakeholders on crops, pests and disease control strategies;

-      Establishing and maintaining collaboration mechanisms with research and other organizations nationally, regionally and internationally on crop pests and diseases,

-      Providing support guidance to service providers in the area of crop pests and disease control;

-      Assuring quality use of chemicals to fight pests, crops for purposes of improving productivity and high yields;

-      Preparing work plans and budgets and submitting to the relevant authorities for action;

-      Implementing inspection programmes aimed at controlling crop pests and diseases;

-      Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
