Job Details (ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER, FISHERIES CO-MANAGEMENT)

The Secretary, Public Service Commission would like to inform all eligible Serving Officers in Government Ministries, Departments and Local Governments that some corrections have been effected in the above Advert. Some positions have been withdrawn and new positions have been added to the Advert as indicated below.

 

Applicants who have been affected by corrections effected in the Advert are encouraged to apply for other positions for which they meet the qualifications. The deadline for submission of applications under addendum (PSC Internal Advert No.2 of 2024) has been therefore, extended to 31st May 2024. d) Print an Extract of PS Form 3 (2008) and obtain recommendation from the Responsible Officers.  Scan the recommendation together with the rest of the documents.

Minimum Qualification
Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries; or Zoology; or Aquatic Biology from a recognized University / Institution and a post graduate qualification in Fisheries; or Zoology; or Aquatic Biology from a recognized University/Institution.
Working Experience
Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience handling fisheries management issues, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Principal Fisheries Officer in Government.
Duties
The incumbent will be responsible to the Commissioner for performing the following duties:-

-        Implementing policies, legislations, standards, plans and strategies for increased community participation in improved fish capture, culture and production;

-        Providing technical support and guidance to Local Governments, service providers and private sector in fisheries production, including LMOs and grassroots institutions such as co-management structures;

-        Monitoring and back-stopping co-management activities; and providing leadership so as to avert conflicts at grassroot institutions in fisheries management;

-        Supporting national working groups on review of nationally and regionally agreed co-management programmes and strategies including policies on data sharing and information dissemination;

-        Researching and following-up on implementation of the fisheries management collaborative programs and crosscutting issues with Government Ministries;

-        Preparing and submitting work plans and budgets for the Department;

-        Supervising and appraising the performance of junior staff;

-        Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
